Baseball great Rickey Henderson being sued. Again.
Rickey Henderson played for a number of Major League teams over the years. When his stint landed him in San Diego, everyone joked about how bizarre he was in interviews. Aside from being rude, he often talked in third person. It was great. You'd ask him about a lead-off home run he hit, and he'd say "Well, Rickey knows what that pitcher is going to throw him. And, Rickey just waits for that pitch to come over the plate."
There's nothing more fun then asking Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn about his days playing on Rickeys team. He can't contain his laughter as he talks about him.
But, lawsuits are never a laughing matter. Especially, when it involves us, the autograph collector!
Henderson, who holds the record for all-time stolen bases, was sued for $5,000 by a promoter of sports collectible shows.
It was filed in New York State court, and MAB Celebrity Services accuses the 49-year-old of "breach of contract, fraud and conversion." Details on all that, weren't given.
But, the New York Daily News said on its Web site, that Henderson is accused of not showing up at events he agreed to attend to sign autographs.
Now, I can't wait until the day he appears in court (if he does, at least, show up for that). Can you imagine him on the stand? An attorney asks him a question, and he says "Rickey doesn't feel answering that question is in his best interest. But what Rickey will tell you, is that I was going to show up, but Rickey had some other appointments. And, when Rickey wanted to re-schedule, they wouldn't let Rickey."
The Judge will ask, "Mr. Henderson, who is this 'Rickey' you are referring to?" Henderson will say, "Your Honor, the Rickey that Rickey spoke of a few minutes ago, is the Rickey that is speaking to you now?"
It will be like a "Who's on First?" Of course, if you tell Henderson that's what it sounds like, he'd say "Rickey is on first, because, you see, Rickey be the best leadoff hitter that ever played the game. Rickey rests his case."
The jury will find him guilty. Of not knowing how to speak.
