A letter written by Aaron selling at auction.
I saw an old pitcher from the Negro Leagues the other day. He was speaking at a book store. I regret the fact that I didn't have the time to stay and ask for his autograph. I had a million things going on that evening.
But, it reminded me that recently, at Hunt Auctions, a letter handwritten by Hank Aaron sold for $24,150. The high price has to do with it being written early in his career. And also, the historic nature of who it was written to (baseball fans love stuff like that).
The letter is dated November 22, 1951, and is to Syd Pollock, the former owner of the Indianapolis Clowns, of the Negro Leagues.
This high price is believed to be a record for a modern player's penned letter or note.
