If something was found that was 385 years old...you can imagine all the possibilities of what you'd prefer. Maybe a coin. Or a signature from some historic figure. But, this item, although it sounds gross, will probably bring in a pretty penny.
A gold toothpick and earwax spoon, was found in a Spanish galleon shipwreck off the Florida Keys.
The late 16th century grooming tool only weighs an ounce. But experts are saying the value could exceed $100,000. It was found last Sunday by Blue Water Ventures diver Chris Rackley, according to the Associated Press. He was searching an area just over 20 feet below the surface, and 40 miles west of Key West.
The search was for the Spanish galleon Santa Margarita, which sank in a hurricane in 1622. So far, the only other things recovered were spikes, ships' fittings, rigging elements, ceramic pieces, and two skeleton keys.
A year ago, Blue Water divers located gold chains and bars, and a lead box containing thousands of pearls carried by the Margarita. That find was estimated at more than $2 million.
