You won't believe what that buried Red Sox jersey finally sold for.
So the auction finally ended.
It was that Red Sox jersey that was buried under Yankee stadium.
A Massachusettes guy named Kevin Meehan was the top bidder for the David Ortiz shirt. Nine seconds before the auction ended, he put in a bid that was $100 higher than the top bid. That means, he won the jersey. For...get this....$175,110.
He told the Associated Press, "I actually thought it was going to sell for more money. I have three young boys that I take to the games and they would have killed me if I didn't buy the shirt."
I think they should kill him for buying it. For that price, he could've gotten a Babe Ruth autographed baseball, with a Ortiz autographed jersey, and still have $165,000 left over for their college funds!
The money did go to fight pediatric cancer, which is a good thing.
