Anne Frank's signature on a postcard.

I've told this story before, but one of my favorite historical document/signed items, a sportscaster I heard on the radio has. He talked about seeing Martin Luther King, Jr. give the "I Have a Dream" speech. As he walked from the podium, he asked for it. King handed the young man his speech, which was typed out, but plenty of handwritten notes in his hand.

This find isn't as exciting as that. But, interesting for autograph collectors nonetheless.

A Dutch teacher found a handwritten holiday postcard that Anne Frank , then 8 years old, sent to a friend. The card, sent in 1937, was signed by Anne and sent to one of her best friends, Samme Ledermann. It was postmarked from just across the Dutch border in Aachen, Germany, where Anne was visiting relatives.

Anne signed the card, but didn't write a message. The front depicts a clover-covered bell atop a snowy field and wishes "good luck for the new year" in German. Paul van den Heuvel, a teacher who was gathering material about Anne Frank for his school, found it in a box of cards in his dad's antique shop.

The Anne Frank Museum, which encompasses the small Amsterdam apartment where the Frank family hid from the Nazis for just over two years, is hoping van den Heuvel donates the card to its collection. I'm thinking, with eBay and other auction houses, that probably won't happen. I can see this thing fetching $50,000.

The museum has the largest collection of documents and papers on Anne Frank. Her diary is the most widely read book that relates to the Holocaust.

In case you aren't familiar with the story, Anne, along with her parents, sister and four other Jews who were hiding in the apartment, were arrested in August 1944 and deported to Auschwitz. Anne and her sister were later sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where Anne died at 15 of typhus in 1945, only weeks before the camp was liberated. Her father survived..
