Afew basketball stories
The other night, Charles Barkley was on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The subject of autographs came up. Barkley said he doesn't understand why anybody would refuse to sign autographs. He then said the only time he refuses, is if he's with his kids, or eating. Then, when the subject of how much Barkley eats came up a few minutes later, and Barkley talking about how he eats everything off his plate, and only "white people seem to leave stuff on their plate," Jimmy said "Maybe you eat such big meals, because you don't sign autographs when you eat. And, if you are spending more time eating, that's less time you have to sign autographs."
Barkley laughed.
I remember being in the locker room of a game once, when the first Olympic basketball team had NBA players. He was joking with everyone, as he pranced around naked. And, he kept bugging Michael Jordan about a golf game.
When they both left the locker room, Sir Charles signed autographs for the fans. Air Jordan didn't.
But, to more contemporary basketball players...a school in Nulato, Alaska, picks a destination for their seniors each year. Last year, it was Hawaii. Nice choice.
This year, they picked Cleveland. Yep. Home of my mom. Home of tire factories.
But, the seniors love Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James. And, the students were able to raise $20,000 for the trip. Sure, they stopped off at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. They went to an Indians baseball game, hit the mall, zoo, and Shaker Heights High School to meet some of the students. But, the highlight of their trip? Two Cavs games, and at half time of one, meeting their idiol, LeBron James.
I'm sure James signed a bunch of autographs for the group.
